My Experience.. 

It was the most memorable moment for me on Tuesday morning, July 10^th. FirstLadyPress called me to let me know I have a confirmation email for First Lady Michelle Obama’s grassroots event, located in Miami. If not being escorted in by secret service wasn’t enough, the energy and Her Grace’s presence most definitely topped it all. Michelle was nothing more than her self. She spoke on tops concerning the nation as a whole and honored her husband President Barack Obama in his dedication, integrity and work for the American people – she without a doubt – stands by her man.

She’s an intelligent woman, approachable and very open in sharing her childhood, early struggles and life with Barack and the kids. “I still tuck the girls in at night “ she said, “yeah I know they’re older now (with a chuckle) but I do it anyway, what can I say.. I’m a mom”. And I wouldn’t expect anything less from Michelle, her nurturing spirit shined as bright as her eyes as she spoke about her work within this years campaign. In her last words before she had to rush off to yet another event, “When Barack and I stepped in to the White House, there was a lot to do and a lot has been done – but we still have a lot more work to do and with this re-election, we will both we just as dedicated, if not more, to making sure we have accomplished all we need to do for the re-building and prosperity of the people of the great country”.

Words, Heart and Spirit from a woman that would have my vote for Presidency… any day!

I am overwhelmed that I had the opportunity to see her in person and moreover will never forget this Historical moment in time..

With a Bohemian feel, Stephanie's work features vintage prints, crochet appliqués, and eclectic flower motifs. Despite the striking designs, she credits the line's rise to her attention to customer feedback. Re-building Life..

Every 15 seconds, a woman is beaten by her husband or partner in the United States.* Yvette Cade never thought she'd be included in this statistic...then she married Roger Hargrave.

On "Who The (BLEEP) Did I Marry?" (Wed., 9 p.m. ET on ID), viewers were introduced to Yvette. She survived a harrowing ordeal at the hands of her abusive alcoholic husband, Roger.

After the couple had separated Roger still wouldn’t leave Yvette alone. Things took a brutal turn when Roger showed up at Yvette’s work, doused her in gasoline, and then set her on fire. Thankfully, Yvette survived, but the experience left her with deep physical and emotional scars.

"I just want people to look at me as normal," she said, "and for myself to feel as normal as possible."

When Yvette first met Hargrave, she says he always smiled and had a "great personality." As a single parent raising a young daughter, she says she also admired the care and concern he showed for his son from a previous relationship. Yvette soon married Hargrave, but their happiness began to fade after only a few months.

Carol Bryant, Yvette's aunt and the one who introduced the couple, says Hargrave started drinking a lot after the wedding and then began verbally abusing her niece. "You couldn't even call their home without having to listen to him in the background making vulgar remarks and screaming and hollering," Carol says.

Yvette's family feared that Hargrave's erratic behavior would turn violent. Within months, their fears became a frightening reality.

Roger is now serving a life sentence in jail, and Yvette lives with the after-effects of the attack. "It’s an everyday struggle for me to even get up, get out of bed, go in my kitchen to cook dinner because I’m near the fire."

We Celebrate You!

One of my favorite inspirational movies over the last year has been “THE HELP”. Brilliantly written by Kathryn Stockett, her incredible skills gives us a birds eye view into the lives of our ancestors. I walked away from this movie with an amazing amount of love, honor and respect for the women who endured hateful criticism, unlawful punishments and demeaning conditions – just to make a dollar. It represents the strength, power and spirit in the eyes, minds and hearts of women who brought the true meaning of sacrifice to the table in the most phenomenal way. 

I AM FOREVER CHANGED..

My grandmother was a housekeeper (Help) since she was a teenager – she never completed school – couldn't read very well and when she broke her ankle on a weekend fishing trip (her favorite thing to do) – was made to work through the most unbearable pain. Her “Lady” employer was a wealthy and snooty woman, heartless most of the time, ridged in every way and looked at my grandmother not as a woman just like her – but someone who took care of her children when she didn’t feel like it, cook her food, clean her house, iron her clothes and listen to her problems when her husband had to “work late at the office”.. My grandmother was a hard working woman, loving and brilliant in ways I never knew until now. She was part of my creation, foundation and will forever be an extension of my future.

These women were, are – and will forever be KIND, SMART and IMPORTANT in every way..
